Welcome
The Department of English Language and Literature offers undergraduate (B.A.) and graduate programmes (M.A., Ph.D) in English Studies. The department aims at enabling the students to acquire an awareness of the world we live in through the broad insight literature conveys. Through the interdisciplinary perspective literary studies provide, students will not only have a vision necessary to respond to texts critically, but also achieve skills for a wide range of careers.
The Department also provides the students with the opportunity to get a minor degree from various departments of the Faculty of Letters. This discipline prepares students for postgraduate work in English and American Studies, Comparative Literature, Translation and Interpreting, Film Studies along with other areas of humanities such as Women’s Studies. Additionally, our B.A. and M.A. graduates have the chance to continue their studies in various disciplines of Social Sciences such as International Relations, Politics, Economy, Communication and Media Studies.
As a part of the curriculum, students take part in organisations of international conferences, and through the project-oriented elective courses, they can perform their work (e.g. updating the department website, working at the student library founded by the students themselves, etc.). Among the job oppurtunities that our department provides are teaching, working in the sectors of tourism, foreign trade, banking, media and press etc., along with having a position in the Consulates.
